A Celebration of Community: Grand Forks Children's Museum Party

Life is a collection of circles—interwoven, enduring, and ever-growing. These circles represent the connections that sustain us: the rhythm of existence, the bonds of friendship, and the unity of community. At the heart of these circles lies the opportunity to give back, to contribute, and to create something remarkable—like the vision of the Grand Forks Children’s Museum.

The circle of life teaches us the importance of renewal and growth...in giving to future generations—through education, innovation, and discovery—we contribute to the cycle of progress. The Grand Forks Children’s Museum symbolizes this promise, creating a space where curiosity will bloom, and dreams will take root. Through donations and volunteerism, we become part of this vital circle, ensuring that every child has the chance to learn, imagine, and grow.

Our friendships form an important circle, built on trust, support, and shared ideals. Friends join hands with us in our mission, to build something greater than ourselves. Whether volunteering, donating, organizing fundraisers, contributing ideas, or spreading the word, these efforts amplify the museum’s vision. Together, we are stronger, inspiring one another to give, volunteer, and dream of a better tomorrow.

Community is the circle where individual actions ripple outward to create collective change. The Grand Forks Children’s Museum will be more than just a building; it will be a beacon of hope and education for the entire community. This museum project is a reminder that when we come together—we are building something truly transformative. It is the circle of community, where shared goals meet shared efforts, creating lasting impact for generations to come.

These circles—life, friendship, and community—are deeply intertwined. The lessons of life’s cycles inspire us to invest in the future. The circle of friendship motivates us to connect and collaborate. The circle of community empowers us to create positive change. Together, these circles represent a shared purpose: to build, to inspire, and to give back.

This past Tuesday night was an evening of joy and gratitude as the Grand Forks Children's Museum hosted a heartwarming party to celebrate its circle of friends, donors and volunteers. The event was held in Marco Island and serves as a testament to the incredible community that rallies around the museum's mission to inspire, explore and educate children.

The night was a gathering of original and steadfast donors, whose unwavering support helped to launch the capital campaign, including Greg and Susan Opp, Jim and Mary Dale Hansen, Dan and Jolene Mikkelson, and members of the Dan and Marilyn Kuhlman family, and so many more. Each donor has played a crucial role in furthering the museum's mission.

One of the heartfelt speeches honored the legacy of Danny Kuhlman, a passionate advocate of the museum since its earliest days. Danny's initial donation was accompanied by a powerful message that continues to resonate: children should understand where things come from, how things are made—milk, food, tools—and he urged the museum to dedicate itself to providing this essential knowledge. His vision remains a guiding principle for the museum's mission.

The night was also a gathering of so many other generous donors, whose support has helped further the building campaign and enabling the museum to break ground in the near future. It is their presence that underscores the shared vision of building a bright future for the children of Grand Forks.

Several dedicated volunteers were recognized at the event: Jolene Mikkelson stood out for her passion and commitment. Jolene has dedicated countless hours at our pop-up museum, teaching children the art of quilting—a skill rich in tradition and creativity. Her son, Tommy, has played a special role as a greeter at the pop-up museum event, bringing a welcoming smile to every guest. MaryDale Hansen, also contributed her time and energy, tirelessly guiding children at Full Steam Ahead, ensuring the children feel supported and valued every step of the way. Susan Opp, whose wonderfully creative and elegant contributions and dedicated efforts consistently elevate every event she supports. Dana and Meggen Sande, the evening’s host, have been passionate supporters, volunteers and advocates for the museum.

With laughter, music, camaraderie, and heartfelt connections, the evening captured the essence of community spirit - how collective efforts can make an extraordinary difference. The Grand Forks Children’s Museum is truly a testament to the strength and spirit of our community.

So many friends and neighbors have come together, not only through their generous financial contributions but also through their moral support, volunteerism, and belief in this vision. It’s this collective effort—this shared determination—that has turned this dream into reality.
